چکیده

Salak palms (Salacca spp.) are important fruit species in Southeast Asia, but the morphogenesis of their reproductive organs is unknown. To observe female gametogenesis, pistil S. wallichiana and subsequent fertilization were observed. The ovary contained three ovule primordia months before flowering (BF). one mono-nucleate megaspore at center degenerated megaspores on chalazal side two BF, a embryo sac (ES) month BF. nucellus enlarged, protruded beak-like from integuments, forming micropylar structure. was anatropous, unitegmic, crassinucellate. Three weeks ES 8-nucleate stage. Two an egg apparatus comprising egg-cell nucleus synergid nuclei developing side. central cell polar (PN). One week synergids became multi-nucleate multiple-PN dispersed ES. Several days PN again observed, remaining appeared to develop groups along wall. Antipodals existed day PN, after pollination (DAP), zygote primary endosperm occurred remained functional enlarged even fertilization. Four DAP thereafter, suspensor cells early side, multiple free nuclei. In wallichiana, likely indicates intermediate between Polygonum Oenothera types, suggesting unique development pattern among palms.

Isolation of Aurantiamides from Gomphrena Celosioides C. Mart

In West Africa and Nigeria in particular, many virgin plants are still waiting to be evaluated for their medicinal importance. Claims of plants with folk medicinal applications need to be evaluated and verified. Gomphrena celosioides (family – Amaranthaceae) is a weed grown in lawns and the biological activity of the extract had earlier been established. In the present study, the plant was coll...

Observations on the Forces of Morphogenesis in the Amphibian Embryo

Recent years have seen considerable advances in our knowledge of chemical interactions between different parts of developing embryos, and of the metabolic processes by which the stimulating evocators are released. We have also acquired further information, on the biological level, of the correlations between parts which lead to the formation of units organized into definite patterns. On the oth...

Some Observations on the Ultrastructure and Morphogenesis of Photoreceptors

The photoreceptors of the vertebrate retina are highly differentiated cells having a dual function. They act as receptors of light at the outer segment and as transmitters of the resulting message at their innermost end. Morphologically they can be considered as nerve cells having a high degree of submicroscopic organization and specially differentiated portions. Thus, at the distal segment the...
